Message Questions

For the first three weeks of March, we’ll be in a teaching series—US vs. THEM: Escaping the Hold of Political Tribalism. We’ll be looking at a Jesus-centered understanding of politics, embracing a kingdom ethos that transcends earthly divisions and fosters a commitment to truth and love. This Sunday we’ll have guest speakers, Truth Over Tribe authors and podcast hosts, Patrick Miller and Keith Simon, as we dig deeper into the topic of how we can be people who care more about the truth of Jesus than the tribalism of politics.

Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.

1. What has challenged or impacted you from this 3-week series? Has your view of Jesus and politics changed? Why or why not?
2. Spend some time reviewing Jeremiah 29:1-14, then Matthew 22:15-22 from the previous two weeks Summarize them in your own words. What stuck out to you from these passages? How can a better understanding of these texts help you grow in your love of Jesus?
3. Did anyone in your group attend the afternoon seminar with Keith and Patrick? What were the highlights from it? What questions did you get answered? What questions do you still have?
4. What relationships are difficult for you to go towards in this political season? How do the characteristics of the early church help you engage these relationships? Spend some extended time praying for the challenging relationships God has placed in your life.
