Message Questions
This Christmas season, our theme is Searching for the Light. In this 4-week series, we’ll grow in our understanding of Jesus’ identity as the true prophet, priest, and king – and ultimately the true savior who is the only one who can satisfy our searching souls This week our main text is Hebrews 1:1-2a and the big idea is: Jesus is the true prophet who speaks God’s truth to us.
Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.
- Read Hebrews 1:1-2a and Mark 1:14-15. What differences do you notice between how God spoke through the prophets in the past versus how he speaks through Jesus? What makes Jesus a unique and final prophet?
- Read Mark 7:20-23. Jesus lists specific sins that come from within our hearts. Which of these surprised you or challenged you? Why do you think Jesus emphasized that these come from within rather than from external sources?
- The message explained that repentance means "a change of heart, mind, and direction." How is this different from simply feeling sorry for something we've done wrong? Can you share an example of what true repentance looks like in everyday life?
- Read Romans 5:1-2 and John 3:16-17. Jesus came not to condemn us but to save us and make things right (justice). How does understanding God's heart toward you—peace, grace, and love rather than condemnation—change the way you approach him when you've sinned? Where do you need to grow and receive this truth more deeply in your own life right now?
- The message ended with the question: "Where are you searching for the truth right now?" In our culture, people look for truth in many places—social media, influencers, self-help, politics, etc. How can you go towards others and lovingly point them to Jesus as the true source of truth? Who in your life needs to hear that Jesus is the Word of God this Christmas season?
