Hannah and I both have a love for working in East Africa and serving the church. I was born and raised in Ethiopia, Hannah grew up in Michigan. God placed a desire in both of our hearts to serve those in need. After studying mechanical engineering I headed to Uganda to work with a water mission where I met Hannah. After we got married we served with the same mission in a remote area of Uganda for one year. The work was short term so at the end of that year God led us in a different direction, EMI.
Hannah and I have been working with Engineering Ministries International (EMI) in Uganda since 2016. EMI is a non-profit Christian organization that provides affordable building designs for other Christ-centered missions using the skills of engineers, architects, surveyors, and construction managers. Founded in 1981, EMI has completed 1300 projects in over 100 countries around the world. Over the past 5 years we had the opportunity to manage, train and disciple the men in the EMI Uganda fabrication workshop. God has used the workshop’s high quality fabrication and carpentry work to support other ministries serving communities and the Church. More importantly, the lives of many of these men have been transformed through the Bible studies, training and project work in the shop. The team I trained is now training and mentoring others!
Hannah and I always look forward to joining the Alderwood Church Family in worship whenever we are in the Lynnwood area! It is a blessing and encouragement to know that this Church is behind us and the work God is doing in Uganda and the world!
