About Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry equips followers of Jesus to provide one-to-one Christ-centered care to hurting people.

A Stephen Minister:

Is carefully selected to serve in this role because of his or her care-giving abilities.
Receives 50 hours of training in providing high-quality, distinctively Christian care.
Participates in on-going training and supervision during their commitment to the Stephen Ministry.
Faithfully meets weekly with his or her care receiver for as long as there’s a need.
Holds everything about their care-receiver in confidence.
Does not replace pastoral care, Life Group relationships, and professional resources.

Stephen Ministry’s purpose is to equip followers of Jesus at ACC to give high quality, one-on-one Christ-centered care to people going through one of life’s difficulties.

Stephen Ministries' core purpose is summed up in the words of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians: To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. (Ephesians 4:12-13).

Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation trained to provide one-to-one, Christ-centered care. Stephen Ministers are the hands and feet of Jesus Christ and express the Lord’s love and care through the minister-care receiver relationship.

Stephen Ministers are ready to come alongside you—or your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives—and provide comfort, support and to help the care receiver strengthen their faith and confidence in Jesus Christ. A core value of the Ministry is that Stephen Ministers are the care-giver and Jesus Christ is the cure-giver.

Stephen Ministers typically have one care receiver at a time and meet with that person once a week to listen, care, pray, encourage, and offer emotional and spiritual support. When we match a Stephen Minister with a care receiver we match men with men and women with women.
