MESSAGE QUESTIONS

We’re concluding our “I Am” series today with “I Am the True Vine.” Jesus reveals himself to us through seven “I Am” statements in the book of John. This Sunday, the big idea is, Jesus is the only source of real purpose.” Our passage is John 15:1-17.

Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.

  1.  Have someone read John 5:1-5. What roles do the branches, vines, and fruit play in the agricultural process? What is the most important thing for fruit to be produced? Who is the best/worst gardener in your LifeGroup?

  2. Read John 14:1-3. What happens to fruit that is not connected to the vine? Pastor Curtis mentioned that fruit bearing is not a test, but a byproduct. How much of your time and resources are spent doing for Jesus rather than being with Jesus and remaining in his love?

  3. Have someone read John 14:4-6. What do we learn about God in this text? What is our role to play in the fruit producing process?

  4. How does remaining with Jesus cause you to grow? What are shifts you can make in weekly/monthly/annual rhythms to remain with Jesus?

  5. Jesus is the source of real purpose. Who are the most difficult relationships for you to go to and love? What are ways you or your group can sacrificially love those Jesus has placed in your life?
