Message Questions
We are continuing our study in the book of Acts, which is the story of the Holy Spirit igniting the Jesus movement through faithful obedience of a few humble people. We continue that same story today. The Holy Spirit will use the teachings of Acts to inspire you to do the same thing the earliest followers of Jesus did when they first understood the magnitude of what God has done through Christ: to GO. This Sunday, the big idea is: Effective sharing of the gospel is both intentional and relatable. Our passage is Acts 17:10-34.
Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.
- Pastor Curtis talked about contextualization in his message this weekend. What is an example of a time that you had to contextualize something for someone to better understand what you were talking about (i.e. explaining American football to a person from another country).
- Have someone read Acts 17:10-12. How does the passage describe the Bereans? Why does the passage describe them this way?
- Have someone read Acts 17:16-21.
- What made Paul distressed in Athens?
- Who does Paul talk with in vs. 17-18? What is Paul being accused of teaching?
- Have someone read Acts 17:22-34.
- What does Paul notice about these people?
- What does Paul say is God’s motivation for creating all things? (see vs. 27)
- How does Paul call the Athenians to respond to his message?
- How would you differentiate how Paul shared the gospel with the Bereans and the Athenians? In what ways can you grow in how you share the gospel with those who don’t yet follow Jesus?
- Who is Jesus calling you to go to and share the gospel within your relational sphere? What in-roads has God given to you with them that could lead to gospel conversations?
