We continue in our 7-week series in the “I Am” statements of Jesus. This week is “I Am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” Jesus reveals himself to us through seven “I Am” statements in the book of John. This Sunday, the big idea is, Jesus is the only path back to the goodness of God.” Our passage is John 14:1-6.
Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.
- Have someone read John 13:33. What is Jesus communicating about his future? How do you think the disciples would respond to this kind of news?
- Read John 14:1-3. What kind of tone do you observe about Jesus’ response to sharing about what is to come? Jesus is sharing about how the cross is going to restore humanity to its original purposes. How has the cross brought comfort to you in times of confusion?
- Have someone read John 14:4-6. What do you notice about Thomas’ response to Jesus? What do you notice about Jesus’ response in vs. 6? Share a time in your past when truth was spoken to you in love.
- How can you grow in your ability to share truth in love? How does sharing truth grow your relationship with Jesus?
- Jesus is the only path back to the goodness God intends for us. Who in your life is longing for the goodness of God but going down the path of achievement, pleasure, or moral superiority? How can you go to them this week with gentleness and truth?
