Message Questions

If you only had hours left to live, what would you do? For Jesus, he chose to spend his last moments before going to the cross teaching his disciples the most important truths they would need to cling to once he was gone. These are the things Jesus knew they needed to know, and we do too. In this message series, we’ll be diving into John 13-16 as we learn more about the Heart of the Teacher: Jesus’ Final Words. This week we are in John 16:25-33, and the big idea is: Jesus’ victory brings peace in the storms of life.

Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.

  1. Have someone read John 16:25-28. Jesus tells his disciples that the Father himself loves them because they loved and believed in Jesus. What does it mean to you that the Father loves you personally? How does that truth impact your relationship with God?
  2. Have someone read John 16:31-33. Jesus knew his disciples would scatter in fear, yet he reminded them to take courage because he had overcome the world. When have you experienced Jesus’ peace in the middle of a storm or trial?
  3. Have someone read Psalm 23:4 and 2 Timothy 4:16-17. Both David and Paul describe God’s presence during lonely or difficult moments. How have you experienced God’s presence when others let you down or when life was hard?
  4. Corrie ten Boom said, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.” What is one area of your life where you need to grow in trust that God is with you and that his love is deeper than your struggle?
  5. Jesus’ victory gives us peace and courage even when life is difficult. Who in your life is currently going through a storm and needs encouragement? How can you go and share the peace of Jesus with them this week?
