Message Questions
If you only had hours left to live, what would you do? For Jesus, he chose to spend his last moments before going to the cross teaching his disciples the most important truths they would need to cling to once he was gone. These are the things Jesus knew they needed to know, and we do too. In this message series, we’ll be diving into John 13-16 as we learn more about the Heart of the Teacher: Jesus’ Final Words. This week we are in John 15:26-16:15, and the big idea is: The Holy Spirit is bringing the cosmic trial of creation to an end.
Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.
- Have someone read John 15:26-27. Jesus says the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, will testify about Him. What does this mean, and how does the Holy Spirit help us understand and share the truth of Jesus with others?
- Have someone read John 16:8-11. The Holy Spirit convicts the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment. How have you experienced the Holy Spirit convicting or guiding you in your own life?
- Have someone read Genesis 18:25 and Romans 5:1-2. God is both just and merciful. How does knowing that the Holy Spirit is bringing the world’s "cosmic trial" to its end bring you hope in a world filled with injustice?
- Saint Augustine wrote, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” What are some ways you can grow in daily reliance on the Holy Spirit for guidance, peace, and deeper faith?
- John 16:7 says that the Holy Spirit was sent for our benefit. How can you go and share the Spirit’s work in your life with someone who does not yet know Christ? Who in your life needs to hear about the Spirit’s role in convicting, guiding, and bringing peace?
