We’re in a year-long journey through the books of 1 and 2 Samuel, tracing the rise, reign, and legacy of Israel’s most famous king. We’ll see the story of how God works through real people with real flaws to accomplish his purposes. This week we are in 1 Samuel 18, and the big idea is: God is with you like he was with David.

1. Have someone read 1 Samuel 18:1–5. What stands out to you about Jonathan and David’s friendship, and how do you think it reflects God’s presence in David’s life?
2. Have someone read 1 Samuel 18:6–9. Why do you think Saul responded with jealousy instead of celebration, and what does this reveal about his heart?
3. Have someone read 1 Samuel 18:12–16. What contrasts do you notice between Saul’s fear and David’s confidence, and how does the text explain those differences?
4. What would it look like to grow in your awareness of God’s presence this week, especially in moments of pressure or resistance?
5. How could you go and be a source of encouragement to someone who feels isolated or targeted, like David did?
