Message Questions

We are in a series on Ruth. The book of Ruth is a story all about faithfulness. As we explore faithfulness as an aspect of God’s character and a virtue for us to embody, we’ll discover ways we can show up faithfully in people’s lives and at church as an act of worship. This week we’ll conclude our study in the book of Ruth and will explore the theme of redemption and how God restores what seems beyond repair. We’re in Ruth 4, and the Big Idea is: God redeems more than you think is even possible.

Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.

  1. Have someone read Ruth 4:9-10. Boaz redeems Ruth and Naomi’s family, ensuring their names will not disappear. How does this act of redemption reflect God’s faithfulness to provide and restore? Share a time when you saw God redeem a difficult situation in your life.
  2. Now have someone read Ruth 4:11-12. The elders bless Ruth and Boaz’s union, invoking the names of Rachel, Leah, and Tamar. How does God’s redemption work through unlikely or broken situations to bring about his purposes? What encouragement can we draw from this?
  3. Have someone read Ruth 4:14-16. Naomi, who once called herself “bitter,” is now restored and cared for through her grandson. How does this transformation show God’s kindness and provision? How can it encourage us to trust God in seasons of bitterness or loss?
  4. Redemption involves restoring what is broken and making it whole. In what areas of your life might you need to grow in trusting God’s ability to redeem? How can your group pray for and encourage you in these areas?
  5. Boaz’s actions as a redeemer point us to Jesus, who redeems us fully and completely. Who in your life needs to hear about God’s faithfulness to redeem and restore? What steps can you take to go and share this hope with them this week?
