Message Questions
We’re in a 4-week series called Fear Not which began on Easter Sunday. In so many ways, we are safer, wealthier, and healthier than any society before us. And yet, we also find ourselves in the midst of a mental health crisis. What does Jesus want to say to us in the midst of these struggles? It’s no accident that a single command is repeated more often than any other in the Bible—Do not fear. Join us as we explore how the gospel is the antidote to the spirit of fear. This week we have a guest speaker, Dr. Gregory Jantz, and he’ll be teaching us about the traits of the emotionally healthy.
Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.
- Have someone read 2 Timothy 1:7. God has given us a spirit of power, love, and self-control, not fear. When you think about your own emotional health, which of these traits—power, love, or self-control—do you feel most confident in, and which one do you want to grow in?
- Have someone read Colossians 3:13 and Ephesians 4:32. Emotional health includes being an initiator of forgiveness. Why do you think forgiveness is so critical for emotional well-being? Is there someone you need to take a step toward forgiving right now?
- Have someone read Galatians 5:1. Freedom from addictions is part of healthy living. In what ways do unhealthy habits (whether obvious or hidden) distort emotional health? How can we support one another in pursuing greater freedom in Christ?
- In Psalm 43:5, the Psalmist chooses to put his hope in God rather than stay stuck in despair. How can you intentionally grow in gratitude this week, even if your circumstances aren’t what you would choose?
- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 reminds us to rejoice, pray, and give thanks in all situations. Who is someone in your life you can go encourage this week with a reminder of God’s goodness and hope?
