A Compass for Compassion
Local Missions Sunday
Message Questions
This Sunday is Local Missions Sunday, and our guest speaker is John Hull, CEO of the Everett Gospel Mission. He’ll be bringing us a message on how to have a compass for compassion. The passages are Micah 6:6-8, Luke 10:25-37, and Philippians 2:1-11.
Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.
- Have someone read Micah 6:6–8. How does this passage contrast external religious acts (like sacrifices) with the inner posture of the heart? What does this reveal about God’s priorities for his people? What does it mean to “do justice” in your everyday life? How might that look different from simply believing in justice or talking about it?
- Have someone read Luke 10:25–37 (The Good Samaritan). How does Jesus’ parable deepen our understanding of what it means to “love kindness”?
- Have someone read Philippians 2:1–11. What does it practically mean to “walk humbly with your God”? How does Jesus model this kind of humility for us?
- How can we grow in living out Micah 6:8—becoming people who naturally do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God in our daily lives? What practical habits or rhythms might help form that kind of compassion in us?
- How can we go and show compassion to others this week — in our homes, workplaces, or communities — so that people experience God’s justice, kindness, and humility through us?
