Message Questions

If you only had hours left to live, what would you do? For Jesus, he chose to spend his last moments before going to the cross teaching his disciples the most important truths they would need to cling to once he was gone. These are the things Jesus knew they needed to know, and we do too. In this message series, we’ll be diving into John 13-16 as we learn more about the Heart of the Teacher: Jesus’ Final Words. This week we are in John 14:12-14, and the big idea is: Jesus is at work more now than ever.

Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.

  1. Have someone read John 14:12. Jesus promises that those who believe in him will do even greater works because he is going to the Father. What do you think he means by “greater works”? How have you seen Jesus at work in the world today?
  2. Have someone read John 14:13-14. Jesus tells his disciples that whatever they ask in his name, he will do. What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name? How have you seen God answer prayers in ways that glorify him?
  3. Have someone read Matthew 28:20. Jesus promises to be with us always, even to the end of the age. How does knowing that Jesus is actively at work today bring you encouragement in your daily life and faith?
  4. History is filled with examples of faithful Christians—like William Wilberforce, Corrie ten Boom, and George Müller—who were used by Jesus to do incredible things. How can you grow in making yourself available for Jesus to use in his ongoing work today?
  5. Luke 22:42 shows Jesus surrendering his will to the Father. How can you go and live in greater obedience to God’s will this week? Is there a specific action he is calling you to take in faith?
