We’re in a year-long journey through the books of 1 and 2 Samuel, tracing the rise, reign, and legacy of Israel’s most famous king. We’ll see the story of how God works through real people with real flaws to accomplish his purposes. This week we are in 1 Samuel 17, and the big idea is: Nothing can stand in the way of God’s victory. 

Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.

1. Have someone read 1 Samuel 17:3–11. What do you notice about the way Goliath presents himself? How do Saul and Israel respond to him?
2. Have someone read 1 Samuel 17:22–30. What stands out to you about David’s reaction to Goliath compared to everyone else’s?
3. Have someone read 1 Samuel 17:45–47. What do David’s words teach us about his view of God and how victory is won?
4. What would it look like to grow in courage by remembering what God has already done for you?
5. How could you go speak truth into someone’s life this week who’s stuck in fear or feeling overwhelmed?
