Message Questions
We are continuing our study in the book of Acts, which is the story of the Holy Spirit igniting the Jesus movement through faithful obedience of a few humble people. We continue that same story today. The Holy Spirit will use the teachings of Acts to inspire you to do the same thing the earliest followers of Jesus did when they first understood the magnitude of what God has done through Christ: to GO. This Sunday, the big idea is: Jesus calls us to follow him into a battle. Our passage is Acts 13:4-12.
Use these questions to discuss the message from Sunday, focusing on how you can grow as an everyday follower of Jesus and how you can go accomplish what Jesus calls you to do.
- Read Acts 13:4-8. Pastor Wyatt shared that behind every false gospel, there is an enemy trying to lead people astray. What characteristics do you see in Elymas? Where do you see or feel opposition to the good news of Jesus? Then read 1 Peter 5:8. What did you learn from the message about the enemy?
- Have someone read Acts 13:9-10. How did Paul’s strong response sit with you when you first heard it? What lies in your life do you need to call lies and follow with a strong response? Have someone read John 8:44. What can we learn from the way Jesus responded to opposition?
- Read Acts 13:11-12. What opportunity is Paul offering Elymas? Why did the proconsul believe? Share a time when you were astonished by Jesus and his teachings?
- Pastor Wyatt shared three false gospels that we see in today’s world: Spiritualism, Individualism, & Happiness. Which of these false gospels do you see in the world? Which do you see in your own life? How can you grow in your love and astonishment of Jesus?
- Jesus calls us to follow him into a battle. What battles are you in? In what ways can it be a battle when you go towards the relationships God has placed around you?
