Global Surge, Manila
Recently life has been a time of unexpected blessing as well as a time of great learning. Here’s a look into our life and ministry.
Let me start with some of the many blessings:
God has allowed all of our Global Surge Churches to still stay intact. In fact, our churches have been a powerful support system for our hurting communities. This includes tons (literally) of rice, and other necessities for families.
God has continued to sustain our family through this season. Our children have been blessed to have room to ride bikes around the block, and learn new board and card games.
A few interesting things of our life in Manila now:
All businesses here have a no mask no entry policy and in some cases face shields are also required. Along with this most establishments have a plastic or plexiglass barrier between any of the office/restaurant staff and the public. It certainly makes ordering a Starbucks coffee very interesting to say the least.
All but a few public transportation options have been halted, which stops about 70-80% of the city from getting around. However, bicycles have been flooding the vehicle travel lanes. More and more jeepneys & buses are getting back on the road. Passengers on buses, jeepneys, and even motorcycles are also divided by a plastic barrier and have to wear a mask and usually a face shield.
Malls and stores now have staff who walk around with big signs reminding everyone to “keep social distancing”
A few prayer requests.
Our kids are starting online school. Pray for our three elementary aged kids, Scott (5th), Everett (3rd), and Virginia (Kindergarten). The harsh reality that they will not be able to see, interact or even play with their friends is quite heartbreaking.
Pray for our churches. Currently our churches are able to meet at a 10% of the capacity of their meeting facility. However we’ve seen the “permissions” to gather change overnight.
Pray for our government, we are entering the sixth month of quarantine and the restrictions from which days of the week we are allowed to grocery shop has its limitations.
