Cru at UC San Diego
What a crazy month it’s been. Many of you have been affected immensely by COVID-19, especially those in King County, where the outbreak has been particularly life-threatening to elderly loved ones. My heart goes out to you.
We definitely feel it in San Diego as well. Last week we got a shelter-in-place mandate, and news that San Diego schools will move online; students were sent packing for home.
How do we reach an empty campus with the gospel? How do we have Christ-centered community? These are questions we’ve been seeking the Lord about. And already we have seen some fruit starting virtual Bible studies. I expected very few attendees at our first Miramar Bible study. Instead, 13 people were on the call, and two guys came who had never come before! One of them, Edwin, who is not a believer yet, actually felt more comfortable joining the virtual one, and I shared Jesus with him. Pray for more opportunities like this!
Before the outbreak, ministry with Cru was flourishing across San Diego. Praise God, eight students have given their lives to Christ this year! Several more have been baptized. The young group I helped pioneer at Miramar College went from two leaders to 20 students who have been faithfully sharing the gospel, and now they are helping start a group at Palomar College where already one student has come to Christ.
Most recently, Nana, a Japanese international student at San Diego State, gave her life to Christ. She started coming to Cru events, asked my teammate Lauren about God, and as Lauren shared, the more she heard the gospel, the more she kept saying “wow.” Just a few weeks ago she decided to follow Jesus, and since then has been sharing her testimony with other Japanese students. In May she heads back to Japan, where I pray a gospel seed will spread.
Lastly, pray as I continue to prepare for business as missions to unreached people groups. I am currently taking business and theology classes as I do ministry with Cru until July 2021!
